Autumn colors of Kamacnik, Zeleni Vir and Plitvice lakes
These days, fall colors are at their peak. The forests of continental Croatia, painted in yellow and red shades of leaves, are at their most beautiful. In search of beautiful autumn photo motives I headed to Gorski Kotar and Lika. The first destination was Kamacnik – a famous hiking destination near Vrbovski in Gorski kotar.
Kamacnik
Kamacnik is a beautiful canyon of the eponymous river that flows into the river Dobra only a few kilometers from its source. It’s a protected landscape where you can enjoy the fairy-tale scenes of small waterfalls and creek winding through the forest while walking along the river and crossing several bridges. It is especially magical in the fall.
Zeleni Vir
After Kamačnik, I headed to Zeleni Vir – park and hiking site near Skrad in Gorski Kotar. Zeleni Vir is named after a source in a shallow cave that sits below a 70-meter cliff down the stream. The first hydroelectric power plant in Gorski Kotar was built on the waters of Zeleni Vir. After plunging down the mountain, the stream further turns into a gentle and colorful river surrounded by lush vegetation. The clear and sunny weather further emphasized the beautiful colors of this idyllic location.
Plitvice Lakes National Park
The third destination was the well-known Plitvice Lakes in Lika. The national park itself welcomed me with clear but very windy weather. Strong wind past days, had already blown many of the foliage off the trees, however, the fall colors were still beautiful.
